Celebrate Every Day

Recently, I have been embracing a new creative practice.  I celebrate every day. It’s an empowering part of the creative process that we often skip over. Celebration is so beautiful because it can energize our creativity in a variety of ways. It can be its own creative project, a ritual, and a great way to lift our spirits.

I am sure that celebration is so strongly on my mind because today is a big day for me. Today marks a decade since I stepped out on my own and followed my audacious dream of being a creative soul-prenuer.

As a Creative Life Coach who works in the Intentional Creativity® Method, I love to help Creatives bring more meaning into life. Creativity and celebration are great partners for doing that! I have been crafting my own personal celebration around this huge occasion and wanted to share with you some of my favorite ways to incorporate celebration into the creative practice.

This list might be for you if you find yourself…

  • Working hard on creative projects rather than feeling playful about them.
  • Doubting your creative abilities.
  • Holding back from engaging your creative ideas.
  • Feeling stuck, uninspired, or alone on your creative life journey.

10 Ways to Weave Celebration into Your Creative Practice

1) Make a decision to be a Celebrator.  Explore what that archetype means for you and how to bring it to life.

2) Invite the Universe to celebrate with you, then look for evidence of its collaboration.  Consider that the beautiful feather left outside your car door was actually an act of celebration or that the hummingbird who landed on the branch outside in the garden was showing up to the party with you.

3) Make celebration part of your creative process as often as possible. Just like you start a creative project with energy and enthusiasm, make the ending of it have punctuation. Whether a period or an exclamation point, take time to honor that what you have begun is now wrapping up…. And to honor all the pivots it took to get there.

4) Explore incorporating personalized rituals into your life that focus on the celebration. Rituals can be an exciting outlet for your creativity.  Consider ways to create small rituals that you can show up to regularly (like using the end of the week to journal about large and small accomplishments and gratitudes) or larger rituals that mark life’s highlights.

5) Incorporate a rhythm into your celebrations to mark the beginning, middle, and end.  It can be as simple as saying, “I am beginning my celebration.” or lighting a candle to delineate your special section of time.

6) Look for reasons to celebrate. Think outside the box for what a celebration has to look like or be for.  Could a bath with sea salts and flower petals be your celebration?  Or a visit to a special spot in nature?

7) Activate the senses during your celebration. Choose an essential oil that can announce that today is special… or a beautiful cup that you use for a favorite beverage while honoring your festivities.

8) Invite others to celebrate with you.  Even if you bring them along for the ride without actually meeting, expand your occasion by including others in some way.  Post something online, have a collaboration, invite them to celebrate their own important moments while you celebrate yours.

9) Expand your understanding of celebration by exploring how others celebrate.  My friend, Sherry Richert Belul has been exploring celebrations for years.  Check out Simply Celebrate for beautiful stories about the impact celebration can have and offers a treasure troth of ways for celebrating.

10) Celebrate every day. That is what can turn a sometimes kinda thing into meaningful practice. Even if your daily celebrations are quick, small, and on the fly, discover how transformative an ongoing mindset of celebration can be. Discover too how choosing to celebrate is in fact a gift you give yourself. It says, “Me and my life are worthy of lifting up and honoring.”  How beautiful is that?!
